Literature concert "Changgyeonggung Palace, Korean cultural heritage"

Changgyeonggung Palace was built by King Sejong upon his ascension to the throne, to honor his king father, King Taejong. The palace was built as an expansion of Suganggung Palace that served as a royal residence for the king's inner court. The palace was built in 1483.

Changgyeonggung Palace is also known for many royal tragedies, including the confinement and death of Crown Prince Sado under King Yeongjo and the abdication of King Jeongjo. In particular, the Japanese colonial rule transformed the palace into a zoo, botanical garden, and the Yi Royal Family Museum - even changing its name to “Changgyeongwon Park.” It wasn't until the site was designated a historical site in January 1963, and the zoo and botanical garden were relocated to Seoul Grand Park in 1983, the palace reclaimed its original name, Changgyeonggung Palace.

One of five grand royal palaces of the Joseon Dynasty, the Palace of Filial Piety: Changgyeonggung Palace!

Let’s go back to the commemorative moment that Changgyeonggung Palace restored its name from the shame of Japanese colonial rule.
